I enjoyed the food here and the service is good as well. We ordered the spicy chandon, it was very delicious and satisfying. I was sweating heavily while eating haha

The outside seems a little gimicky, with a bamboo segway at the entrance to go into the restaurant. You walk in and it’s a festive decor with lanterns hanging from the ceiling. You notice there is a second level of seating, staff seems to look busy and keeps shouting out japanese phrases, I usually find this protocol when guests comming in or leaving establishment, but based on observation not sure why staff seemed to do it more than necessary. I placed order for salmon bowl and karagi. Both pretty good maybe slightly higher than nonki quality, I am a little annoyed that I had to ask for dipping bowl and soy sauce since I did order something that required it. Othwr than that it was a decent experience and I would try it again.
We decided to go an adventure by trying highly rated restaurants in the city. This one will be first of many. You are greeted by red tori gates into an open dining area with hanging notori’s and busy lady servers in kimono. There are many options on the menu, with reasonable priced food and drinks. Food is good, and I was happy to see the offer the extra large Suntory highball. Heading back to this place for sure. Only drawback is their menu presenting prices that’s not VAT inclusive can be misleading, and it’s required by law that menu pricing is inclusive of it. Salmon was t served chilled, and being a fatty fish, it was “sweating” when served, but that didn’t deter us from consuming it. Cigarette smoke coming from the function rooms aren’t properly ventilated out of the building and seeps into the non-smoking dining area which is tolerable but quite bothersome for us being a family of asthamatics. To conclude, we are heading back as we really enjoyed our visit, the place itself, food and value for me.

Matsunoya is one of the best Izakaya (Japanese restaurant & bar) in Cebu! It's well a worth visit!
One of the best authentic japanese restaurants in Cebu, with authentic japanese owners and even serving staff. K san and Shun san are the nicest owners and know how to treat their guests well, it feels homey, warm, and welcoming. Not far from the culture that the japanese love to show to the world
Legit Japanese Restaurant!! The sashimi was mouth watering and super fresh. They have specials so you better check it out. Definitely coming back need to explore more. xxx
I went there a few times it was delicious but the last time with a group the food was too salty and raw food wasn't that fresh. My partner wants to complain but said feels inadequate to complain when someone offers to pay for the food. I hope that day the chef just had a little mistake because it was busy at that time. I still wanted to go there though.
