Alcantara is a fifth class municipality in the province of Cebu, Philippines. According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 13,556 people. Alcantara is administratively sub divided into 9 barangays: Cabadiangan, Cabil-isan, Candabong, Lawaan, Manga, Palanas, Poblacion, Polo, Salagmaya. In this town is a place called Boardwalk. It's a bamboo structure built over the swamps, coastline. I have to say this walk would be better just as a walk the end result is well worth it. What wasn’t were the animals kept in awful , dirty conditions in cages made from bamboo which were far too small. How anyone can keep animals like this is beyond me. Neglect of the boardwalk made it very unsafe walking also, it is made from bamboo sections, many of which were rotted through. Some areas had been shut off due to the unsafe boards. I don’t know who owns this area of Alcantara, I was told a foreign man owned it. Whoever it is, should reach into their conscience and do something to right this terrible wrong. At the end of this walk is a beautiful area and view, I would have gladly paid just to get to this part of the walk. The unsafe boards made some of the walk perilous and the person with me was not happy at walking along this boardwalk.
