One of the most visited sites during Holy Week in Misamis Occidental and nearby areas in Zamboanga del Norte is Caluya Shrine in Sapang Dalaga town where you can find a 60-foot replica of the famed Christ the Redeemer of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Located atop a hill in Barangay Caluya, it overlooks Murcielagos Bay and Dioyo River. On a clear day, you can also view Mount Malindang. During Holy Week, devotees take the rigorous 150 steps towards the statue

Breathtaking 360 view of either green mountains or clean waters, if you aren't particularly physically fit you might get quite winded on the stairs going up but the view more than makes up for it. As of my time of writing parts of the roads are still under construction, with one area being composed of a rocky downhill slope and a few others being one way roads due to the opposite lane still being under construction, at the base of the shrine is a parking area with a 3 or 4 stands selling drinks, snacks, and t-shirts.

The drive going to the place is quite rough. Portions of road are under construction. At end of the road is the junction going to Caluya Shrine and Floating Cottages. Entrance is free. You climb some steps and once you reach the top there is the Holy Redeemer with a scenic and breath-taking view.

Breathtaking view, you see ocean, river then the panoramic view of the mountains and a big statue of Jesus.

The place is still being developed but its aesthetic, visual, tourism and spiritual appeal are becoming loud, clear and touted in the neighboring places of Sapang Dalaga, MisOcc. Coming here is like being there in the original Statue of Christ the Redeemer at Rio de Janiero, Brazil. Overlooking the bay which contains Caluyaw Floating Cottages. A must-see, must-visit destination. Bring umbrellas for its quite hot in here.
