HANDStudio – Habúlan and Ngo Design Studio is an award-winning architectural practice operating within the fields of Architecture, Research, and Design. Based in the Philippines, the Studio’s architecture emerges through a careful analysis of the evolution of contemporary life that results to new methods of architectural organization. The Studio is led by partners partners Arch. Yonni Habúlan and Arch. Maricris Ngo, alumni of the University of Santo Tomas. Functioning as a design laboratory, the Studio gave them the freedom to explore the infinite possibilities of Design as it transcends social, cultural, and economical issues while steadily pushing the formation of a new archetype of Philippine Architecture. INNOVATION The Studio aims to create experiential environments suited to its clients and contextual fabric: achieved through research-based design and constant exploration of form and space. Working as a laboratory of ideas, HANDStudio investigates each design issue through careful experimentation (on paper and on-site) as it develops from the intricate details to the overall idea. COLLABORATION Intent on providing design solutions that are fresh and radical in approach, the Studio believes in a symbiotic design process that assures each project to be distinct and specific to its users. Forms are not derived from previous norms, but through the outcome of careful collaboration and constant creative evolution. FILIPINO TRANSLATION As a Studio that believes in the cultivation and progression of Philippine Architecture, it endeavors to translate the clients’ briefs into modern interpretations of the Filipino idiom. The Studio believes that this process would elevate the quality of the local architecture as it transcends the practice of merely building but rather creating architecture that is definitive of national identity in the contemporary age. Architecture thus becomes adaptive, progressive, and responsive to its local and cultural setting.
