The Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral Mausoleum is the resting place for deceased prelates located behind the church's sacristy. Two cardinals, Julio Rosales y Ras (1906-1983) and Ricardo Jamin Vidal (1931-2017), second and third archbishops of Cebu respectively, are buried in this mausoleum along with some bishops. Bishop Juan Bautista Gorordo y Perfecto (1862-1934), Cebu's first Filipino bishop, is also buried here. I was privileged to enter this mausoleum yesterday (Nov. 29, 2018) when I assisted Msgr. Esteban "Eser" Binghay, JCD, PA in his Mass which he offered for the souls of the two late cardinals. Msgr. Binghay was ordained priest and made an Honorary Prelate by Cardinal Rosales. The latter also was the one who sent the former to Rome to study Canon Law and earned the title Doctor of Canon Law (JCD). Cardinal Vidal appointed Msgr. Binghay as Episcopal Vicar (until 2017) of the Archdiocese of Cebu and it was during his incumbency as archbishop that Msgr. Binghay was made a Protonotary Apostolic of His Holiness Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.
