This Old Maya Port still operates, but majority of the bancas are now in new maya port. I don't think there is scam here. If you don't want to wait, of course you have to pay for a higher fare. Normal fare is 100 pesos, but paying for 200 pesos to depart early and depending on the number of passengers are not bad. But as I said, you can opt to go to the new port.

Our experience here was really easy. We got off our bus from Cebu, walked over to the tourist ticket office at the end of the jetty. Got a ticket to Malapascua for 100 peso each and we were away within maybe 40 minutes.

It won't get any more traditional and locally beautiful than here. All termibal is basically one pier with sand road and that's about it. Definitely felt lovely after 6 hours bus ride from Cebu City.

DON'T GO HERE, GO TO THE NEW PORT INSTEAD. we made the mistake to go to this port as it was advised by our hotel (kikeys place) which is just 2 min walk. From what we experienced, this port is no longer that much in use, it is mostly used by local people. As a result, when we got there there were no more tourists(although there were many locals but it was not clear that they were waiting for a boat). The staff in the ticket office informed us that if we are not 15 people to travel (we were just 3 foreigners by that time), the journey would be cancelled. Otherwise, we could pay double price to travel either way. The boatman came to us after 2 minutes and he put a lot of pressure, almost threatening us that if we do not pay the 200php he doesn't know when we will travel as there come no people etc.. in the end we decided to pay it, it was not that much, but when we got on the boat we were 15 of us in the end, counting the Philippinos who were almost hiding until that time. As a conclusion, they were just trying to make tourists pay double price. There are also 2 small boats that you have to pay 20php each, one to bring you to the big boat from old maya port and one to take you from the big boat and leave you to malapascua. On our return from the island, we got the boat to the new poart and everything went really smooth and easy, no comparison to that experience we had in the old port.

I just wanted to share my experience as it's completely different to everyone else. Having read the previous reviews i had really hyped myself up..ready for the onslaught of people trying to rip me off..but literally came off my Ceres bus..Walked up to the payment area, paid my P100 and sat in the makeshift waiting area for the next boat. I waited 20 minutes before heading to the boat and arrived in Malapascua 30 minutes later, completely hassle free and totally surprised. I had no issues here at all!

NOT THE FERRY PORT anymore. You can catch private ferry but regular service now departs from new ferry port. Be careful for scammers here.

It is the old ferry terminal. MOST IMPORTANT TO KNOW that Ceres Busses don't operate from here anymore, but from new ferry terminal. BUT many vans for 200p from here to Cebu, bit faster. So has advantage and disadvantage. The people trying to get money for everything. 20 pesos to carry 12kgs luggage for few meters. Just keep your luggage is best option.

Its the worst place I ever been in the Philippines. You will have to deal with really sleezy and greedy people there to arrange your transfer from Maya port to Malapascua Island, they will try everything to trick you and press some money out of you, they will behave rude and respectless. Best you simply avoid this place!
