Great hike. The final slog up the peak can be scary. Highly recommended. Within driving distance of Manila.

always closed, dont waste time going there!
Place is closed for the public indefinitely. As with so many things in the Philippines. If it seems nice, its either closed or overprice. Former for mount palay. DENR closed, Path to the top closed. After a 2,5 hour ride and 350php spend, to find that out, that is a big ***k you. Well, doesn't matter, as long as you don't tell anybody about your plans, just go and climb to the top. There will be lots of o trespassing\ signs. Well just climb around them. More difficulty, more adventure. Back from mt. Palay, from the base station, there is an unmarked path that leads north. It leads over some stony cow paths (which were a slippery river today, because it started to rain when we were climbing down), through dozens of mango trees, which bear hundreds of delicious, ripe fruits, ready to pick (or just take the fallen, saraaap) and in the end around an active quarry with friendly security guards. Verdict: Mt Palay sucks, as most of activities in phils, but if the obsessive regulations of a bunch of corrupt officials can't stop you, you could have a wonderful 6-8 hours hike still.
If it is your first time hiking, I recommend you trek Mt. Pico de Loro. Minor climb, the trail is well defined, you'll walk under the shade of huge trees and nice view at the summit.
Hard climb for beginners like me. But worth the trip when you get to the peak.
A trail for beginners who has recently discover the perks of hiking.. Me and my friends went there last year. One of my friend was a first timer. He was really amazed of the view from the parrot's peak of pico de loro.
nice place, I think that the mountain should rest for a while.
Best view but closed for the moment
