Tabuk Marine Fish and Bird Sanctuary is a really special place and one of my favorites in Palompon. It’s simplicity and beauty are key to how it established a handprint on my heart. Tabuk is the best place to see an example of how our environment can make big impacts on nature when it is preserved. If you look closely when walking through the mangroves you will see the different ecosystems present and springing to life in a habitat that is disguised as quiet and calm. After taking the tour or kayaking through the islet you can have lunch and a swim out at the stilt cottages nearby. This is also a great area for snorkeling, kayaking, and swimming. You can also just speak with the tourism office to arrange a boat captain who will bring your group to the island for a group lunch/dinner or organization meeting for collaboration. It is overlooking the coast of Leyte and the many fishing Bunsod or fish traps, booboo traps. Often you can see the fishermen out examining their catch while on the cottages. The sunsets here are so beautiful already and if you are there at the right time you will see many of the endangered fruit bats flying for the nighttime hunts. Even if you are not out on the water you can get a clear view of this from the viewing deck or the third floor of the tourism building. If given an opportunity to explore Tabuk Islet in the waters of Palompon definitely take it and try to see how much you can learn about the important of mangroves from Palompon’s amazing tour guides.
